Anatomical distribution of Trigeminal Nerve (5th) Sensory Branches
Anatomical distribution of Trigeminal Nerve (5th) Sensory Branches
- Opthalamic
- Maxillary
- Mandibular
Functional distribution of 5th nerve in relationship to the spinal cord and brainstem-
- Pain, temp, & light touch distribution in the descending 5th tract is cervical to oral in the form of an onion skin model with the lips being the most rostral region for touch and pain.
The overlap of the 5th nerve sensory branches (opthalmic, maxillary and the mandibular) in the onion skin pattern occurs because all three nerve components descend in 5th tract to the 4th spinal segment level.
