Ventral Posterior Medial (head/face sense afferent target- VPM) nucleus of the dorsal thalamus and Ventral Posterior Lateral nucleus (VPL) are the targets of the sensory afferents from the body. The site is most easily identified at the level of the centromedian (CM).
