• Sound generated by movement of the tympanic mbr

• Possible Mechanism

• Efferent control of outer hair cells-
• Rapid ELONGATION/CONTRACTIONs of HC’s that move the basilar membrane causing endolymph to move the stapes and the tympanic mbr.
• Cilia bundle movement: actin filament contractions
• Stapedial/Tensor Tympani reflex (too fast for muscle contraction)
