At the level of the anterior commissure the globus pallidus external segment appears just medial to the putamen. The rostral arch of the fornix occurs just dorsal to the anterior commissure. The anterior perforate area with the olfactory tubricle with the entering olfactory stria are just ventral to the pallidal-striatal complex. The amygdala is ventral to the entire region.
