BASIS: Motor Unit
BASIS: Motor Unit
- Motoneuron and all muscle fibers connected to it.
- All or none
- Final common pathway
Movement based on contraction of motor units
- Skeletal muscle across joints
- Muscle to muscle
Movements require reciprocal contraction
- Agonist contraction & antagonist relaxation
- (eg. Flexion vs Extension)
Reflex movement-
- Sensory afferents form loops through interneurons or directly to motoneurons.
Tone is co-contraction of agonist & antagonist muscles
occurring dynamically during actions.
