Two point tactile sensitvity is highly developed, only, in primates. The DORSAL COLUMNS are poorly developed in rodents and carnivoir. In humans, two point tactlie sense is a major player in building self image.

Stereological imaging of objects is detected by joint receptors and pressure receptors. Meisners corpuscles, dome receptors, joint receptors, and Pacinian corpuscles of the fingers, toes and lips send high resolution data to the supramarginal gyrus of neocortex.
Vibration is sensed by Pacinian corpuscles in deep tissue. This pathway is tested with a tuning fork on bone prominences, differentiating lower spinal inputs from upper for trunk and limbs. Tabes dorsalis, an infliction of the dorsal root ganglion cells, show marked high threshold to the test.
