• Primary neurons are small dorsal root ganglia
• Endings are free nerve endings in the skin
• Others participate by persistent activation of histamines and swelling
• Neurons are small with no or thin myelin
• Central projection ascends and descend in the Lissauers Tract over 3 segments.
• Terminations synapse with the marginal, gelatinosa, nucleus proprius complex.
• Secondary neurons-
• Neurons in the nucleus proprius carry pain to the thalamus
• Axons cross in the ventral white commissure at one to 2 segments above dematome.
• Axons collect in the ventral lateral funiculus in a Somatotopic pattern.
• Cord- dorsal to ventral caudal to rostral
• Project through brainstem to the VPL of the thalamus.
