Auditory cortex is on the superior temporal gyrus. The Heschl gyri (area 41) are buried within the lateral fissure. Two transverse gyri are positioned in the temporal lobe looking into the lateral fissure. These gyri extend from the insula rostro-laterally on the superior temporal gyrus.
