Medial Nucleus of Trapezoid Body (MNTB)
Medial Nucleus of Trapezoid Body (MNTB)
Projection of the cochlear nuclei to the contralateral medial nucleus of the trapezoid body (MNTB) ending as a calyx of Held that is inhibitory to MNTB neurons. This circuitry acts as a sensor of temporal differentials arriving at one of the pina as compared to the opposite side. The first ear to receive signal inhibits the opposite side maintaining input activity from the side for the direction of the source.
The anterior ventral cochlear nucleus receiving auditory nerve fibers and sends axons to the contralateral MNTB ending as a calyx of HELD that forms a single large excitatory synapse.
